Welcome

Your personal journey begins here, on the path to physical fitness and mental tranquility.   Discard the fad diets and miracle cures, and you will quickly discover the many benefits that Yoga can bring.

In the simplest terms, Yoga is a combination of three things.

  • A physical exercise.   Stretching, bending and flexing the body using a series of carefully planned and executed movements.
  • Breath control.   Coordinating breathing with movement through conscious thought.
  • Mental discipline.   Calm the mind and reduce stress.   Concentrate on the moment and eliminate trivial and troublesome thoughts.

Yoga is not Pilates or Aerobics. Classical Yoga has nothing to do with any current or past exercise fad. If Yoga is combined with any other physical activity it is no longer Classical Yoga, and most of the benefits are lost.

Many people associate yoga with religion, and are put off by it. Yoga is not a religion or a system of beliefs. Yoga is not spiritual, except for the benefits to your own spirit through mental discipline and peace of mind.

Yoga is primarily a universal philosophy. It can apply to and benefit anyone, regardless of age, occupation or religion. In addition to promoting physical fitness, Yoga also creates mental balance in a society that is becoming more and more stressed.

The Principals of Yoga

The Five Principles of Yoga are the basis of attaining a healthy body and mind.   Through the practice of Yoga anyone, regardless of their current physical condition, can attain strength, flexibility, poise and mental clarity.

In this section we will give you detailed information on the Five Principles:

  • Proper Relaxation
  • Proper Exercise
  • Proper Breathing
  • Proper Diet
  • Positive Thinking and Meditation

As the popularity of yoga has increased in Western countries, a part of yoga's authenticity has been lost.

Yoga, in Sanskrit, means unity of body and spirit, but our modern culture is very much about the body only. Some exercises have basic benefits, but they do not provide the practitioner with everything that classical yoga has to offer.
